For the second year running, the Kingston Frontenac Anti-Violence Coordinating Committee invited Grade 9–12 students at Limestone District School Board schools, École secondaire publique Mille-Îles, École secondaire catholique Marie-Rivier, Holy Cross Catholic Secondary, and Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High to enter its “Direct This!” Video Contest. Students were given the chance to talk about Violence Against Women, and how to end it, in short videos of five minutes or less, in English or in French.
Youth having open, constructive conversations about partner abuse and sexual violence helps prevent problems from developing later on in their lives. “Direct This!” is designed to engage students in thinking about these issues, and sparking these kinds of conversations.
This year, KFACC was very pleased to have yet another great response to the contest, with over 30 entries, representing participation from all eligible school boards!
“Direct This!” culminated with Awards Night, held May 10, 2010. MC’ed by K-Rock’s Sarah Crosbie and Sideshow, the evening included a screening of the finalists, performances by local singer/songwriter Kim Dolan, a special presentation by a survivor of violence, and the highly anticipated announcement of the winning videos.
Congratulations to all of our contestants and our winners. You can view all of the videos on this website by using the navigation menus to your left.
KFACC would like to extend it thanks to its community partners who helped make the 2010 “Direct This!” Video Contest such a success!
