Our protocols

In 2003, the Coordinating Committee Against Domestic Assault on Women (CCADAOW) developed a Partner Abuse Protocol for service providers. The Sexual Assault Protocol was launched in 2008 by the Sexual Assault Emergency Protocol Committee. Both now managed by KFACC, these documents have helped establish a coordinated community response to sexual and domestic violence. They set out guidelines and best practices for providing services to victims, and facilitate strengthened communication and cooperation among service providers.

Sexual Assault Protocol

KFACC protocol acknowledgement

It is widely acknowledged that sexual assault and domestic violence is a gender based crime. However KFACC recognizes that racialized persons, persons with disabilities, trans-persons, non-binary and those in the LGBTQ+ community are also disproportionately affected by violence through deep-rooted systemic oppression. KFACC acknowledges that the language in these protocols does not accurately reflect the reality of all who have experienced violence. We recognize the power and privilege that is represented in the signatory partners and member agencies, and the bias that is present.

KFACC is committed to ensuring our protocols and operations better reflect the community of KFL&A and are working towards changes that better reflect an anti-racist/anti-oppressive (AR/AO) framework and promote equal access to all.

Anti-Oppression: Strategies, theories, and actions that challenge socially and historically built inequalities and injustices that are ingrained in our systems and institutions by policies and practices that allow certain groups to dominate over other groups.

Anti-Racism: An active and consistent process of change to eliminate individual, institutional, and systemic racism as well as the oppression and injustice racism causes.

The Canadian Race Relations Foundation is Canada’s leading agency dedicated to the elimination of racism and all forms of racial discrimination in Canadian society.

Protocol training

KFACC offers members, affiliates, and other interested organizations the opportunity to have their staff take in-person training on the Sexual Assault Protocol and the Partner Abuse Protocol. These training sessions are designed to familiarize participants with the purpose and content of the protocols, and how to apply them in their interactions with clients.

To inquire about an upcoming in-person training session, please contact the KFACC Protocol Workgroup at info@kfacc.org.
