On October 4, families, friends and others concerned about the over 600 missing or murdered Aboriginal women and girls in Canada came together for a Sisters In Spirit vigil at McDonald Park, in Kingston, Ontario. The event included a display of skirts, representing the women who comprise 10% of the total number of female homicides in Canada, despite the fact that Aboriginal women make up only 3% of the total female population. Speakers honoured the women, and spoke on the need for this crisis to be addressed properly by authorities, and not ignored.
